Though I will speak briefly and glowingly about LEVELS, this review is really about the Don't Crack product page for LEVELS. It is also a warning about the "deal" offered by Don't Crack in this instance.
The plug-in itself is impressive. My 15-day trial flew by, and left me very pleased and ready to buy. Yes, I already have plugins that offer most of this information, but at the expense of a much larger footprint and more cumbersome interface. At the discounted price, this looked like another good deal from Don't Crack.
But then there's that pesky little System Requirements line the previous reviewer commented on:
VST 3, VST or AAX 32-bit or 64-bit compatible host
__ or __ or __
As I started filling out my order, thankfully I noticed requirements had changed to Mac AAX only, presumably because that was selected as my preferred host. I didn't realize "or" really meant XOR, that is exclusive or, as in you only get one of these formats. Silly me, I thought the "Preferred Host" popup was for marketing purposes. As in, "To better serve our customers needs, what host in general is more important to you?"
If you buy directly from Mastering The Mix, it appears you get all versions. Including AU, which isn't even listed here. And all that for only $10 more.
For the previous reviewer, the deal breaker was no AU version, as I recall. For me, I needed and expected both VST and AAX.
So, while the plugin looks very good, this may not be a good deal for you if you need more than one host.
